My Thoughts On Our New President

Inauguration Day is perhaps one of my favorite events. As Americans, we do not have many moments where the nation is united and all political differences are placed aside. It is a time to reflect and to recommit oneself to the nation that we all cherish. It reconfirms to people all around the world of the greatness of the United States of America. The peaceful transfer of power is one of the hallmarks of our democracy and something that is a foreign concept in many nations. For these reasons, I am proud to be an American no matter who is sworn into office. The United States is still to this day a shining light to billions and a "city on a hill" to the darkest corners of the planet.

Although, I did not support Barack Obama as a candidate, I do support and respect him as my president. I wish President Obama, his family, and his staff the very best in the days to come. It is clear that I do not agree with his views on universal healthcare, economic ideology, global warming, abortion, his opinions on Iraq and terrorism. I am very curious how he will tackle the problems that we face today and he has his work cut out for him.  After all the hype subsides and when the crowds have left the ballrooms, I will be anxious to see what this man does with our great nation.
