Best Movies of 2007. "The Pena Peliculas"

Its awards season and 2007 was probably my best year for going to the movies. From killer zombie sheep to a madman oil tycoon, 2007 did not disappoint. So, without further adieu I will present my rankings of the top movies from 2007.

10. 300 - This was a earth shattering movie that will redefine the way live action/CG movies are done in the future. What an unbelievable movie.

9. Across the Universe - It took months for this movie to hit the big screen. A musical that was sung 95% live by lead actor Jim Sturgess, this movie was flipping amazing.

8. Breach - Many do not know this but Chris Cooper is one of my favorite actors. Acting as the worst trader in American history, Cooper's portrayal of a dirty double agent is still one of my favorites.

7. Sweeny Todd - Yes, another musical made my top 10. "Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." was a strong adaptation from the popular stage play. Johnny Depp gives one of his finest performances as a vendeta minded barber.

6. American Gangster - A strong performance from both Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington, this long awaited film was one of my first "must see" films of 2007.

5. Juno - Perhaps the trendiest movie this year, Juno was an impressive film from a first time writer and Hollywood's newest star, Ellen Page. I thought this movie was a bit over hyped and tried too hard to be the new "Little Miss Sunshine" or "Napoleon Dynamite." Despite my contentions with this movie's attempt to be "too hip" I felt it deserved a spot in my top five.

4. Bourne Ultimatum - A fitting conclusion to one the best franchises, the final Bourne installment picked up right where Supremacy left off. Car chases, explosions, mental anguish, and espionage did not disappoint this die hard Bourne fan.

3. 3:10 To Yuma - An all around great movie, 3:10 to Yuma provided plenty of tension and suspense between Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. An abstract look at the Wild West, 3:10 to Yuma gave the audience mystery and questions to ponder long after the final credits.

2. There Will Be Blood - 2007 can be described as the "Year of the Western." Daniel Day Lewis gives the best performance of the year as he portrays an independent oil man at the turn of the 20th century. Filmed to perfection and a masterpiece in every respect, There Will Be Blood is a landmark film.

1. No Country For Old Men - This movie quite frankly scared the crap out of me and for that, it gets the number one spot on my list.
