1. Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
What else can I say except that this band is on the mountain top and I don’t see them coming down for a long time. No other rock band comes close to the energy, passion, and joy of Arcade Fire. I’ve had the privilege to see this band live in 2007 and 2010, and every time I’ve left with chills. It’s hard to explain if you haven’t experienced them in the here and now. They are products of this modern age. The Suburbs wonderfully captures the plight of young people as they are called to explore the world even if it challenges the core of their existence.

2. The Black Keys – Brothers
I have to be honest, I slept on this CD and band for awhile. It was only until a few weeks ago was I totally blown away by the Black Keys. These guys are raw and they have an edge that I haven't seen in a band for a few years (e.g. Kings of Leon). Even Hollywood has The Black Keys fever because it seems that every other commercial has a Black Key's jam playing in the background. 2010 was without question the year of The Black Keys.

3. Two Door Cinema Club – Tourist History
It might be easy to peg this band from Ireland as another Vampire Weekend or Phoenix. However, they are so much more. These energetic indie rockers bring an incredible amount of enthusiasm and their CD Tourist History is catchy from start to finish. It does not let up. During the past year, I felt that there weren't as many musical discoveries unlike in 2009. This group gets award for best discovery of 2010.

4. Mark Ronson & The Business International – Record Collection
I've known of Mark Ronson for a few years and when I caught wind of his new solo project I knew that the results would be positive. A wild blend of electronica, hip-hop, and indie pop, this record was a home run. A collaborative effort, Mark Ronson brings Q-Tip, Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow), Boy George, & MNDR to produce an album that is a tour-de-force.

5. Bombay Bicycle Club – I Had The Blues But Shook Them Loose
This album gets the prestigious honor for most times listened to while at work. Time and time again, I heard this album often at a high volume level. It always put me in a good mood, thus fulfilling the name of the album title.

6. Band of Horses – Infinite Arms
This year, it seems as if there were dozens of indie pop folk bands that broke through into the mainstream. Band of Horses have consistently been churning out fantastic harmonies and southern rock rhythms for the better half of the last decade. With the release of Infinite Arms, Band Of Horses have arrived and with a Grammy nomination, it is a sign that this Seattle act is finally getting the recognition they deserve.

7. Broken Bells – Broken Bells
A CD that released last winter, the Broken Bells is still high on my most memorable records of the year. Solid throughout, this self-titled release remains on heavy rotation on my iphone and itunes. This album made the Gorillaz CD very forgettable.

8. Vampire Weekend – Contra
Any record released in January and that is remembered in the month of December is a success. In the span of a year, Vampire Weekend has catapulted to the top of indie rock stardom. Now, one can't turn on the tv (thanks Honda) without hearing "Holiday" on the airwaves. I still recall posting on my twitter in January that Contra was one of the best albums of the year. 11 months later, I still believe that.

9. Yeasayer – Odd Blood

I know these guys draw instant comparisons to MGMT & Passion Pit but Yeasayer reaffirms why I am a fan of the indie experimental electronic genre. Although I did not post their video for Madder Red that features Kristen Bell, I felt it deserved an honorable mention for the weirdest video of 2010. YouTube it.

10. Keane – Night Train (EP)
I was extremely disappointed with Keane’s last full length album, Perfect Symmetry and I approached Night Train with great trepidation. I had no idea what to expect. Usually, EP’s are a band’s excuse to release a few forgetful B-Sides and to show off their creative muscle. In Night Train, the group added more guitars and a touring bass player. Although losing a little of their charm as a three piece group, their stage presence is superior today than in previous years. I feel that Keane has finally found a sound they are comfortable with. Night Train restored my faith in this band and I hope 2011 brings renewed vigor and material from these lads.

Band to Watch: The Naked And Famous

For the past few months, I've been hooked on a fresh, new band from the beautiful island of New Zealand. After a first listen, The Naked And Famous will certainly draw the immediate comparison to Passion Pit and Yeasayer. It remains to be seen if that will be a handicap or will propel their music as they venture further away from their island surroundings. Even though the only song available in the States is "Youngblood," it will challenge the limits of my patience until the full length is released. The Young And Famous are certainly a group to be watchful of in the months to come. I love discovering emerging bands and I am looking forward to following this band as they navigate the waters of the indie music scene.

However, the first time I heard this song by Athlete I was captivated. Tonight, the Lakers beat the hated Boston Celtics. From my earliest days, I've watched the highlight reels from the 60's and the 80's of the epic battles between the Celtics and Lakers. As the rivalry faded during the 90's and the new century, I would often wonder if the Lakers and Celtics would ever square off again in the Finals. In 2008, the stars aligned and the rivalry was renewed. That year, the Celtics celebrated as the Lakers were embarrassed in the worst loss ever in an NBA Finals elimination game. I was devastated after that defeat and it forever coalesced my animosity towards the Celtics.

From day one of the playoffs, I wanted the Boston Celtics. They made an amazing run defeating the Heat, Cavs, and the Magic. The Celtics are a tough and gritty team. I would consider them as a dirty squad but that's just the Boston way. The Lakers needed to raise their level of physicality to a new strata.

The 2010 Finals were a roller coaster. Unpredictable, it was tough to determine which team was superior. I will always be reminded of the adjustments each team made game to game. These were juggernauts in an epic struggle to add upon their own storied legacies. Game 7 was emotionally exhausting. I am drained. Its currently 1:30 in the morning but I don't want to go to sleep on this historic day.

I was always jealous of anyone who was around during the Lakers/Celtics duels of the 80's. My parents would often tell me of how great the Laker teams of the 80's were and how exciting it was to play the Celtics in the Finals. Now, I can tell those stories to my kids but instead of Kareem, Magic, Worthy, & Cooper; I will proudly remind my young of Kobe, Gasol, Fisher, and Artest.

Their dark brand of experimental electronic indie rock picked up where bands such as Keane & Justice left off. On Sunday, I made the solo trek to LA's El Rey to see them for the second time. Let me tell you, it was very worth it!

For me, this year has been a relatively quiet when it comes to discovering new music. That is, until I overheard a discussion at work of a band called, Carney. After one listen of their new album Mr. Green: Volume 1, I was hooked. Blending the blues, jazz, and classic rock 'n roll, these guys show off their talents in every song. Adding to the band's lore, lead singer Reeve Carney, was actually chosen to play Peter Parker in the Broadway production of Spider-man that was composed by U2's Bono & the Edge. With those credits, it will be hard to ignore Carney in the months and years to come. If you like real music played by real musicians then Carney is for you.

Winter Update: The Proof Is In The Pudding

Recently, I've been thinking that I've posted a lot about politics, music, sports, and other stuff but nothing much about me. With that in mind, I think that the time is about right for an update.

If any of you know me, you know that 2009 was the year from hell. Relationships crumbled, my truck broke down on the 55 fwy at 12:30 am, work stress, brokenness, and at least one mental breakdown.

From the outset, I purposed in my heart that 2010 would be a better year for me. I took some proactive steps and they have paid off. The biggest and hardest thing to do was to cut off any and all communication with someone that I dated for 3 years. That was incredibly difficult. I tried to be a friend but towards the end, I just couldn't handle it anymore. It was a toxic relationship and I had to be done with it once and for all. So, on December 5th, I sent my last text and I haven't looked back since. About a week before Christmas, was eating lunch with a good friend of mine who was dealing with a similar situation. She empathized with my problems and supplied me with the resolve that I needed to continue on. I don't know why everything all of a sudden clicked in my brain but after that conversation, I was determined to take the next step in reclaiming my life. I lost my way for a few years. Of course, there were moments that I will always cherish but the level of heartache that I endured overshadowed everything else.

Since then, lo' & behold, my life has gotten dramatically better. My mind is clear and I feel restored. I am making decisions for myself and not just to please someone. I am myself. Joe Pena is back again! The clouds have parted and everyday is getting easier. I am working out 4x a week, my debt is almost gone, and with any luck I'll be able to put a good down payment on a car in a few months. This process was a tremendous learning experience. I've learned just about every lesson one could endure in a situation such as my own.

Now to wrap this up, if there is one word that could best describe my year so far, it would be: focused. I feel that I've layed the ax to the root of my problems and this entry has demonstrated that the proof is in the pudding. 1/3 of the year is almost in the books. I have great expectations for what the rest of 2010 holds!

It should be common knowledge by now that Dan Rather is a crack-pot. After airing false stories about President Bush's military record (which eventually forced Rather to resign from CBS), Mr. Rather made this brow raising comment on the Chris Matthew's Show on March 7th.

Now, if Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney would have uttered Rather's words then a firestorm would have ensured. Denouncements and apology demands from the ACLU, NAACP, the Black Caucasus, and the media elite would dominate the news cycle. Still think there isn't any bias in the mainstream media? A few of my friends and I were discussing the comments made by Seattle-area Pastor Mark Driscoll about the movie Avatar.

Delving into the film's worldview, Driscoll did not mince words as he called Avatar the "most demonic, satanic film" he had ever seen. I agree 100% with his analysis of the film's overt paganism. To be more precise, Pantheism is the belief that Nature and God are identical. "All is God" a pantheist might say. Only through nature would one find the sacred essence of existence. From a Protestant perspective, this is false doctrine that stands in direct opposition to Scripture. What do you think about Driscoll's statment? Too strong? Not strong enough? Or just right?

A few months ago, my co-worker introduced me to the late 60's pop sensation, The Knack. Last night, the band's frontman Doug Fieger passed away due to cancer. The band was catapulted to the heights of rock stardom with their hit "My Sharona". Their other hits include Good Girls Don't, Let Me Out, and Baby Talks Dirty. Goodbye Doug. You'll be missed!

La Bamba!

I think every Latino boy that learns the guitar has dreams of becoming the next Ritchie Valens. For those of you gringos who don't know who I'm talking about, Ritchie Valens was a rock and roll phenom in the late 1950's. His story became popular in the 1988 film, La Bamba. Valens was from the San Fernando Valley. My great aunt knew the Valenzuela family from their early days in Pacomia. Ritchie's life ended in a tragic airplane crash while on tour with Buddy Holly in 1959. He was only 17.

When I was little, I would watch La Bamba with my family and I would always break out my plastic guitar and act out the concert scenes. Those are some of my fondest memories as a young child. Anytime, La Bamba is on TV, everything stops. I found a clip from YouTube. =)

As a Mexican American, I am proud and grateful for the groundwork that Valens laid for generations of latino musicians. He broke through the sterotypes and people of all races loved his music.

When the Presidential campaign was at fever pitch, I vividly remember talking with an ardent Obama supporter about the country if then Senator Obama were elected president. I knew that Obama was too good to be true and I told her bluntly that in one year, the public would have buyers remorse. She was pissed when I said that and I honestly think that she thought I was crazy. However, I WAS RIGHT! Obama's approval ratings have tanked since last summer mostly due to his push for Universal Health Care and wasteful spending. Even his merchandise isn't selling like it used to! Click Here

Blast From the Past: Pioneer Chicken

Pioneer Chicken was a popular chain of fried chicken restaurants until the early 90's when Popeye's purchased the franchise. When I was young, we lived close to a Pioneer Chicken and it was the absolute best. It was by far the greasiest chicken anywhere and it was delicious! I loved it! I did a little research and found out that there is one location in Downtown LA on Olympic Blvd. I think a field trip may be in order!

The Halo That Shines Dimly

Today was another sad day for Angel fans across the globe. In less than one year we've lost a respected coach, a pitcher on the brink of stardom, and now we've lost our voice. Rory Markas died today at the age of 54. Since 2002, Rory did the radio play-by-play for the Angels. I always thought Rory was one of the luckiest guys on the planet. His first year on the job, Rory was the radio voice during a magical season that culminated with a thrilling World Series championship.
Rory had a perfect voice for radio. As the AM frequency would crackle through my car speakers, I enjoyed listening to his call on those endless summer nights. Every Angel fan will never forget Rory's booming voice as he trumpeted after each Angel win, "Just Another Halo Victory!" I admired Rory's professionalism. He was a natural & in an area that has been blessed with the voices of Chick Hearn, Vin Scully, Dick Emberg, Don Drysdale, and Bob Miller, this is a tremendous loss for LA media. I will never forget Rory and he will be missed by this Angel fan. Tonight, in front of the stadium, the Big A is lit in honor of Rory. Though bright, it will be dimmer than normal and Angel victories will not be the same for a long time.

I don't like odd numbers. I prefer even ones. 2009 was very uneven.

Its New Year's Eve 2010 and I've waited until the waning moments of 2009 to put a bow on the year that would never end. Without question, 2009 was the most difficult year of my entire life. Just about anything that could have happened did. From my truck breaking down on the 55 freeway at 12:30 am, financial struggles at home, disappointment, heartache, a quarter life crisis, and even my dad falling ill the day after Thanksgiving (although, now he's healthy) the year was not boring by any stretch of the imagination.

The hits kept on coming and every month there was something new to overcome. I made my share of mistakes to be sure and I can honestly say that I have learned from them. With 100% humility, I can proclaim that I am different person than what I was exactly one year ago today. I am closer to my family and I have cast aside people who were poison to my soul and heart. 2009 never got off onto the right foot from day one. I remember this time last year like it was yesterday. I was confused, conflicted, and was not listening to God's voice clearly. I was not in a good place.

There were some high points and I would have to say that my trip to Belize was the highlight of the year. My first trip outside of the country, Belize allowed me to regather myself and to put my focus onto others instead of myself. We spent 10 days serving, forming lifelong bonds, and fellow shipping with some of the best people that I've ever met. I miss them all. That trip and the friends that I left behind will always have a special place in my heart and one day I hope to return to visit them again.

Another highlight of 2009, was my reconnection with my sister. Over the years for whatever reason, we grew distant but that is no more. She has been a tremendous blessing to me and has helped me deal with a lot.

2009 was no slouch with regards to concerts. I was finally able to see Doves in Anaheim and LA on consecutive nights. They are my favorite band and the reason why I love indie music. Other notable shows included Miike Snow, Mayer Hawthorne, JET, Switchfoot, and Jack Penate. I know I'm forgetting other bands that I've seen this year because the list is too long! This was also the year where I fell in love with House music. Thanks R.A.! It was a good year for music. Don't be surprised if you hear more of Mayer Hawthorne & Jack Penate in 2010. Look out!

The Angels...no comment. It was a great season and I am proud for all they accomplished and overcame but the season was still a failure. As it stands, 2010 looks like it will be a rough year.

In short, I grew up a lot in 2009. It wasn't easy and I don't expect that 2010 will be a bed of roses. By God's grace, I do feel that I've turned the corner and I have no intention of looking back. I hope everyone who reads this will have an unbelievable 2010!

Miike Snow - Silvia

If you've been around me this year then at one time or another you've heard me rave about my favorite band of 2009. From the very first note, the band Miike Snow captured my imagination. Often when I hear new bands and if I really like them, I will listen to their CD a hundred times and then move on without exception. This has not been the case with Miike Snow. Since May, I have been fixated and maybe a little obsessed with this Swedish electronic group. Every time I listen, its just like the first time. I cannot recall a CD ever having this affect on me.

A few days ago, they released their latest music video. "Silvia" is perhaps their strongest track on their self-titled release. It is edited for time but this song is drenched with a rawness leaving you feeling as if there is a pit in your stomach. Brillant!

I am going to start a feature of favorite cartoons from my childhood. I firmly believe that today's children are overstimulated by computer animation. There is something inherently special with hand drawn animation. Each line, border, color, and shadow was carefully drawn by someone and not done by a person clicking a mouse. There is an authenticity that computers could never create. Computer animated features do possess the ability to dazzle and stir emotions but I'm my opinion they lack soul.

2009 was an amazing year for music. There were countless high points as the boundaries of music were pushed to new heights. I owe most to my discoveries to KCRW radio and their many DJ's who are passionate about eclectic music. Settling upon this list was a tough task!!! I want to know what you think about the rankings. Its been awhile since I've posted anything political on my blog. Although my blog has been silent, I have been monitoring politics closer than ever in a non election year. With Obama's public approval ratings tanking and disapproval over universal healthcare mounting, I can proudly say "I TOLD YOU SO."

I can remember a discussion with an Obama supporter before the 2008 election and I was trying to convince her that Obama was going to push for universal healthcare. I kept pleading to her, "how are we going to pay for it?" She had no good answer for me except for "Obama's gonna do it." But I told her that it was inevitable that taxes would have to be raised to cover 50 million Americans. My friend kept bringing up the successes of Sweden and how well universal healthcare works there. I asked her how many people lived in Sweden. She didn't know. I told her that only 9 million people live there and they tax the people to death! Only 9 million!!! I'm sure that amount of people live in Southern California alone! Give me a break! Universal healthcare will be a disaster on businesses and would result in rationed health care. I can say this with absolute confidence because this has been the case where government mandated health care is the rule of law in Europe. Plain and simple.

If you haven't noticed, Verizon has declared war on Apple and AT&T with new ads attacking AT&T's 3G network. It all began when Verizon unveiled the new Droid phone and parodied the iPhone's hipster-friendly tv spots.

Even though I am an iphone user, I despise the AT&T 3G network. It's slow, unreliable, overloaded. Before switching to AT&T, I was with Verizon for almost 7 years and never had any problems. That cannot be said for AT&T. Like many iPhone fans, I was excited to hear that Verizon might carry the iPhone when AT&T's exclusive contract with Apple expires next year. One may wonder though, will Verizon's aggressive ads hurt their chances to land the coveted iPhone?? Only, time will tell.

Favorite Band of 2009

During 2009, no other band captured my imagination like Miike Snow. I first heard their music on KCRW and after they performed live on the show, I was hooked. Obsession might be a mild way to put it but I could not stop listening to their self titled release.

In October, I was lucky enough to catch them at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa and it was an experience!

My favorite track is "Black and Blue." I hope you like it.

I like electronic pop music. But Adam Young's (aka Macbook Sensation) band Owl City is crap. It is an absolute rip off of The Postal Service. Not surprisingly, this guy is a big hit with high-schoolers, Twilight freaks, and boys who like to wear tee shirts of their favorite Care Bear characters. This guy is crap and his music is crap. It needs to die.

I just watched long anticipated Jim and Pam wedding episode of The Office and it did not fail to disappoint! I gotta admit, Jim's dinner speech was probably one the best moments in the show's history. I can identify with a lot of what he said (except for the bombshell at the end) hahaha.

If you watched the episode, their wedding entrance was freaking hilarious! Check out the original clip from Jill and Kevin! While watching the clip, you can just feel the joy from everyone. Too bad most weddings aren't like this one!

One of the positives about the end of summer is that my Disneyland Annual Pass has no more blackout dates. In the last two weeks, I've been to the park three times. Growing up, we never went to Disneyland often. It was too expensive and heck, it still is! So, in many ways, Disneyland is still fresh and new to me.

One very odd and unexpected thing about visiting Disneyland, is that for the first time in my life I've been jealous of the countless young couples with kids. I'm sure my friends who have kids will think that I've lost my mind but I have my reasons. Its awesome looking at the faces of the children as they wander the park with their parents. You can just sense that they are overwhelmed with the immensity of the park. Watching the parents as they lead their kids by the hand, I get excited for when I can have that opportunity. I think this is a big step for me personally. Kids have always been okay in my book, but until recently I could never imagine myself with a family. It was scary to me. Turning 26 in a few weeks, I think I've finally reached a point in my life where I could mentally handle being a parent. I'm obviously waiting for the right person to start a family with but this is big. Its weird...I know...

Some of my most earliest memories are of watching classic Disney cartoons on VHS. Here are two of my personal favorites. Let me know, if you too remember these when you were young! The first cartoon is "Mickey's Birthday". I still hum to myself Goofy's part at 4:25. Usually, this happens when I'm waiting in line for a ride at dland. If you're ever with me, don't be surprised if you hear me humming! I don't know why, but it always makes me happy.

Today, Mayer Hawthorne played a live set on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. I was thoroughly impressed. He was authentic and refreshing. I am making plans to see him in concert this Thursday at the Roxy in West Hollywood. I cannot wait!

As Mr. Obama's approval ratings continue to plummet, he is left to clean up the stench from another one of his "Czars." Van Jones is in charge of creating Green jobs in America. A communist and radical left pal of Obama, he has made numerous controversial statements about Republicans and whites. Is this the sort of change that millions of people voted for in November? Just imagine for a second, if President Bush named a similar person to this post. Odds are that he or she would not have made it as far as Van Jones. As a matter of fact, I'm certain. The media would have squashed the appointment before the ink dried on the contract. This is yet another troubling appointment that President Obama has made. It makes one begin to wonder, why he would give Van Jones such an influential position? Wasn't creating "Green Jobs" one of Obama's top priorities during the campaign? Out of the hundreds of experts in the green movement, Obama chose this racist wackjob or dare I say community organizer???

I am not one to bet against Obama, but if he continues to lose support he is looking more and more like a one term President.

14 Days Without A Car

Living through 14 days without a car was an interesting experience.

On August 13th, I was driving on the 73 fwy and while I was transitioning onto the 55 I heard a "SNAP". Immediately, my truck began to slow down and I came to a stop on the Baker St. off ramp. I knew something went terribly, horribly, and disastrously wrong. In my mind, I kept saying to myself, "I can't believe this is happening, I can't believe this is happening". Fortunately, I was with a friend and we had an unforgettable time waiting for the tow truck to arrive. It definitely was one for the books...After a long wait, the tow truck showed up and we were on our way. We left the truck at a local Firestone auto shop for the night because by this time it was 1 am. I would deal with it in the morning...

Firestone sucks. In my mind, they are not real mechanics. They could not fix my problem. My truck broke down because the timing chain failed. I don't know much about cars and I have a difficult time picturing auto parts. Timing chains are simple. Just imagine a giant bicycle chain wrapped around the inside of the engine. It regulates the timing and rhythm of the engine. All in all, its a very important component. And so naturally, when it brakes while driving, you are screwed. Imagine again, a metal chain snapping at 70 mph and the force created from the engine. Inertia had its way, and chunks of metal, like bomb shrapnel damaged all 8 cylinders inside the engine. I was right, and I knew that something disastrous happened to my venerable little truck.

I decided to take my truck to a friend's auto shop in Costa Mesa. Its a small shop. A sort of 'mom & pop' operation run by two brothers, Tim & Mike. Tim & Mike are good guys. I trust them. Its hard to find a good mechanic who will tell you the truth and who will do the right thing.

Not being able to do what you want when you want was a drag at times, but it allowed me to recollect myself and to slow down. I read more, played my guitar, and relaxed. I relied on family and friends for rides around town. Almost every morning, my mom would shuttle me to work (just like the old days). I could tell that she liked driving me around and I enjoyed our short 8 minute commutes to work. In the afternoon, my dad or mom would wait for me to emerge out of the office front doors and we'd head home. Through this experience, I learned that if you're lucky you'll have a family that will pitch in when you're in a bind. Friends are good and do help, but family will always be there. That is how a family should work.

Here are a few other insights: 1. Preventative maintenance is a good thing. Don't ignore the warning signs. 2. Save money. 3. Don't go into unnecessary debt 4. Most importantly, its time for me to get serious with life. I know God has intervened on my behalf countless times and this incident was definitely no exception. This story could have been a lot worse for me.

Looking back, I know that I grew as a person from this experience. 14 days without a car was a trial but God helped me along the way. And maybe one of these days I'll ask my mom for another lift to work, for old times sake.

Its amazing when a long term friendship/relationship ends, the billions of thoughts that race through one's mind. The memories of my own mistakes, regrets, and missed opportunities are on a constant loop in my brain like the 11pm edition of Sportcenter. Even though there were bad times, there were many more wonderful memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life such as the laughter or those instances when there is nothing but silence and when it seemed that nothing in the world mattered.

Aside from the memories, there are the physical and visual reminders that can hijack one's mind. For me, those reminders are coca-cola, a particular car, a city, and even my own favorite baseball team! I am a very visual person. That is how I learn. And this is where I am tested every day. I'll be honest, I still have a hard time drinking coke and I avoid it if I can...I even shaved off my gotee tonight because of how much she used to like it. Maybe, I'll grow it back but not right now...

Tonight, as I lie on my bed typing its hard for me to keep my composure because my experience with love has been a turbulent one to say the least. Of course, if I could I would have done many things differently. I'm fine taking responsibility for my screw ups because I had my fair share. Nobody's perfect, but I feel that too often I tried to be and maybe that was my downfall.

I've learned a lot about myself and I know that I am growing as a result of this difficult time. I've been in agony when wrestling on whether to cut the cord. I'm not that type of person. When it comes to people and relationships I'm persistent. I don't want to give in but in this case, the emotional and physical toll was hovering over me like a dark cloud. Everyday, I walked around with a giant pit in my chest. I was unhealthy and every day would begin and end with a longing for something that ultimately would never be realized. It was a torture unlike nothing I've ever experienced before. Towards the end, I was growing bitter and I knew that a change needed to be made. I tried my best to remain a friend but it was just too much for me. Do I feel good about ending this relationship or making someone I cared for feel bad? No. I feel like shit. I hate the way I feel but maybe the healing process can begin for me...

If you know me at all, you'll know that I love music and the band Doves. I've adopted this song as my mini anthem during this period of my life. Its called "Pounding" and it does a good job of capturing how I feel right now. My favorite part is at 3:26 and the next three frames. I gleaned a bounty of metaphors from that sequence.

Its finally time to start a new chapter in my life. Its been hard ending this one but hopefully the next one will provide some sort of affirmation and comfort to my weary soul.

Miss California Is My Girl

During last night's Miss America Pageant, Entertainment Blogger Perez Hilton questioned Miss California Carrie Prejean about the topic of Gay Marriage. With cameras fixed and the spotlights trained on Miss Prejean, she boldly stated that she believes marriage should be between one man and one woman. I think that Perez Hilton was just looking for a "gotcha" moment to trap Miss California and to advance his own minority agenda. He is the epitome of hollywood sleaze and will seize any opportunity to assail anyone who believes that marriage is an institution between one man and woman. I applaud Prejean's courageous stand against a controversial topic that is opposed to her Christian beliefs. Prejean finished second and if her response was the difference then that is a shame. In my book, Miss California is a winner and I am proud that she stood for her beliefs while being civil and respectful.

CNN Reporter Loses Her Cool

This CNN reporter obviously cannot handle the pressures of her job while she interviews protestors at one of today's Tax Day Tea Party's. At the end she lashes out at Fox news calling it "right-wing" and "conservative." I don't know where she got her facts about fox but she clearly was having a rough day I support the people who chose to stand up against a government that is growing and to those who wish to institute a form of European Socialism in the United States. I do not support a Nanny State and the ideas that spring forth from it such as Universal Health Care, Nationalizing of the Banks, One World Currency, and restrictions on free speech. The people who protested today recognize that this country is at a crossroads and it is up to us to engage the issues and to represent the ideals of freedom, liberty, less government, and personal responsibility.

Where I'm At Right Now

I know that there are many things that I should be proud of. I enjoy working with pro audio equipment, I have had a steady job, I'm responsible, I have a college degree, and I'm very knowledgeable on many issues.

Lately, I've been bothered with the idea that I'm just not good enough and have had a lot of self doubt about my future. When I get overwhelmed with these thoughts, it paralyzes me and its hard for me to be decisive. I don't know where I'll be in a year. I can only hope that I'll be in a better place personally, with my relationships, my career, and financially. Growing up scares me. I struggle with turning the page and I am praying for direction right now.

RIP: Nick Adenhart (1986-2009)

Today was a very sad day for me. Early this morning, I was jolted by the announcement of the sudden passing of Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart. Nick along with two friends were killed in an auto accident shortly after Wednesday's game against the Oakland A's. Nick was the starting pitcher on Wednesday's game and threw 6 scoreless innings. It was his best start ever as an Angel. Adenhart was only 22 but was the top pitching prospect within the Angels organization. I have followed Nick Adenhart for the last two years and after his performance last night, I was excited because I could sense the confidence that he had in his pitches. He was great. The photo below was taken the night of his death.

The tragedy is compounded because Adenhart was the victim of a drunk driver. His life was cut way to short and it is a shame that his full potential will never be realized. I mourn for his loss and continue to pray for his family during this difficult time. You will be missed Nick but never forgotten.

80's Classic: Airwolf

When I was a youngster growing up in the mid-80's there was no cooler show than Airwolf. Nothing captures the imagination of a little boy more than a futuristic, super sonic helicopter! I can remember playing with my plastic toy Army helicopters as I would reenact the dogfights. I also thought the theme song kicked some serious ass. I wish that it could play in the background whenever I'm driving to work or getting ready for a big challenge. GO AIRWOLF!!!

I'm Not Cool Enough To Buy A Mac

Check out Microsoft's new ad campaign as they attempt to take a swipe at Apple. Its pretty lame. They feature young "Generation Y'ers" on the hunt for the best laptop and value for under $1,500. "Mr. I'm too cool for a mac" has this one great line, "Macs to me are more about aesthetics than computing power" Nice one Aristotle...

With that being said, I do think it is cool that the entire commercial was filmed in Orange County. The opening scene and most of the commercial is filmed inside Fry's Electronics off the 405 & Euclid. At 0:10, the actor is at South Coast Plaza underneath the Bridge of the Gardens.

Twitter is quickly becoming one of the world's most popular social networking sites. Twitter allows its users to send brief 140 character messages which can be sent or followed to anyone. Businesses, politicians, news networks, and celebrities have all latched onto twitter as an effective and emerging platform to communicate with fans.

A new website is using twitter to raise funds for non-profit groups. 1 Million Tweets invites people to donate $1 and to post any message that they want on their account. Their goal is to raise money for deserving charities and to compile all their entries into a book.

I am thinking about being a part of 1 Million Tweets and I am wondering what I should post. Should I tell people to follow my twitter account? my blog? Or should I write something goofy, something religious, something political, or something blue???

American tour where they will play at the Anaheim House of Blues and at the Wiltern in Hollywood! I hope to catch both shows but I really want to see them at the Wiltern. Obama Invades The OC!!!

Our President is headed to the OC in a few days. On Wednesday, he is going to hold a town hall meeting less than four miles from my home.

Lets just hope that this guy doesn't show up...

Sidenote: During the campaign, Barack Obama ducked repeated challenges from John McCain to hold town hall meetings to discuss the issues surrounding the 2008 election...Funny how time changes things...

2009 Fantasy Baseball Draft

Last night, my amigos and I gathered for our second consecutive fantasy baseball draft. Last year's fantasy was a major disappointment and I threw in the towel two months into the season. I have learned from my past mistakes and the motivation to redeem myself is driving me to be the best. This year will be different!

The Curse of the Colonel

Back in 1985, the Hanshin Tigers were Central League Champions. It would be the last time. Tiger fans have endured years of disappointment but now they have renewed hope.

This week, divers recovered the remains of a statue of KFC founder Colonel Sanders from a river in Osaka, Japan. The statue was cast into the river during a celebration of the Tiger's 1985 championship because it resembled the likeness of one of their American players. Many believe the team has been cursed since the Colonel went for a swim because the Tigers have failed to claim the championship for nearly 25 years. Last season, the Tigers lost in the championship round and it was determined that the Colonel must be exhumed!

Is the curse broken??? Only time will tell.
